Their Story Needs to Change...
With the best estimate of children "in the system" in Tijuana alone being 1,600, a conservative estimate of how many of them will reach 18 and have to leave the place that has cared for them is 144. Using numbers from the National Foster Youth Institute in the United States (no other statistics exist) - those 144 young people have at best, an uncertain future story:
🏡 20% of them will be instantly homeless –
💻By the time they reach 24 years old, only 50% of them will have some form of gainful employment.
🏫25% of them will not graduate from high school or the equivalent.
👩🎓Less than 3% of them will graduate from college.
🍼70% of the girls will be pregnant by the time they turn 21.
👩⚖️60% of the boys will be convicted of a crime.
😥25% of them will suffer from PTSD.
💊50% of them will develop substance abuse.
